On being human....

I turned 60 this week. Such a significant threshold. I was honoured to be gifted a crone ceremony by my beautiful sisters. What an incredible and powerful experience. What a gift of love. What a deeply honouring and soul nourishing process.

In truth I’ve been in denial about turning 60. When I finally decided to face the reality, I encountered all my inner demons and preconditioned ideas about what it means to reach this age:

I am too old to be valuable to anyone.
I am too old to be amping up my career. It's time to retire.
Women disappear and become invisible as they age.
In a society that values youthfulness and sexyness, I don’t have a place.

What I now know to be true:
I am officially an old fart
I can say and do whatever I want
I have been training for this time of my life ever since I was born
I am powerful
I have big work to do and I am so ready

I love my younger self. I once hated her . I took out all my trauma onto her. I punished her relentlessly for not being good enough, not being beautiful enough. The results of childhood abuse that caused me self-implode, lose my voice, become invisible, want to die. I have grieved deeply for her, and have forgiven myself for the the cruelty inflicted on myself for so many years. I love who I am. I cherish my body. I own my birth right to be fully self expressed and stand strong for who I am and what I believe in.

At midlife, I embarked on a healing journey that involved overcoming trauma, letting go of people-pleasing, and finding my voice. I changed my career to become a Holistic Counsellor, Healer, and Nature Connection Facilitator. Now, I help women connect to their inner power and feel comfortable in their own skin.
